There are three available arcane backgrounds.

Shamanism
The power of shamanism stems from the mystery of the natural world; knowledge handed down through thousands of generations harkening back to the very beginning of time. With a mix of herbalism, elementalism, and a healthy dose of ancestor worship, the shaman wields great power and is well revered by many peoples of the world.

Arcane Skill: Faith (Spirit)
Starting Power Points: 10
Starting Powers: 3

Available Powers: All powers listed in the Fantasy Companion with the exception of summon ally, which is the version in Beasts & Barbarians.

{font-size:10pt}Spooked: When a shaman rolls a 1 on his Spirit die (regardless of his Wild Die), he has been attacked by evil spirits and is automatically Shaken. This can cause a wound.

Lotusmastery (BB)
Lotus masters are skilled alchemists who have harnessed the incredible effects of the lotus flower. A rare and varied flower that grows in remote locations throughout the world. Many varieties of the lotus exist, and each is known by a different blossom color: black, purple, red, etc. The lotus master works this marvelous plant into potions, salves, and powders to create a variety of wondrous, and deadly, effects.

Arcane Skill: Lotusmastery (Smarts)
Starting Power Points: 10
Starting Powers: 3

Available Powers: barrier, blast, blind, boost/lower trait, burst, confusion, detect/conceal arcana, dispel, entangle, environmental protection, fear, healing, invisibility, light, obscure, poison (BB), puppet, slow, slumber, smite, succor, warrior gift, zombie.

Bad Recipe: When a Lotusmaster rolls a 1 on his Smarts die (regardless of his Wild Die) during the creation of a concoction, he suffers a wound.

Sorcery (BB)
Sorcery is rightly feared and shunned throughout the world. Through unholy rituals and arcane invocations, the sorcerer communes with forgotten deities and dark beings from beyond. These horrors grant the sorcerer superb powers, at a price. Those who dare to dabble in this dangerous art must be brave (or foolish) souls indeed.

Arcane Skill: Sorcery (Smarts)
Starting Power Points: 10
Starting Powers: 2

Available Powers: armor, barrier, beast friend, blast, boost/lower trait, bolt, confusion, darksight, deflection, disguise, drain power points, draining touch (BB), detect/conceal arcana, divination, entangle, fear, havoc, intangibility, invisibility, obscure, puppet, slumber, smite, speak language, stun, summon ally (BB).

Backlash: When a Sorcerer rolls a 1 on his Smarts die (regardless of his Wild Die), has displeased an evil entity and must roll on the Sorcery Critical Failures Table.
