The world is currently in the grips of an iron age. Weapons are most commonly made of iron though at lot of bronze weaponry is available. There are savages far from civilization that still use stone, bone, or wood weapons. Steel exists but only in very small quantities. It is made by only the most skilled craftsman in civilized areas where wealthy kings and nobles can afford it. There are legends that speak of an even harder material whose origin and the knowledge to forge it has been lost to time.

Player characters may purchase gear from the medieval tables in Savage Worlds Deluxe. Gear listed in the Fantasy Companion is also available.

Weapons, armor, or other tools must be assigned a material (i.e. iron sword, bronze armor, or wooden shield). When a fighter rolls a 1 on his Fighting die and his opponent is using a weapon, shield, or armor of harder material, his weapon breaks. The hardness, cost adjustments, and effects of each material are listed in the following table (in ascending order of hardness):

Material Cost Adjustment Effect
Wood free
Bone free
Stone free
Bronze -20%
Iron standard
Steel x10 AP 2; +1 Armor; weight -25%
